ASUU Rejects Se,Xual Harassment Bill

Scholastic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected the progressing s*xual Harassment Offenses Bill, in the Senate, saying the bill was focused at instructors.

As per the union, the bill is malevolent and it undermines college independence.

ASUU President Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, while talking yesterday, in Abuja, at an open hearing on the bill, composed by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, asked the Senate specifically and the National Assembly, when all is said in done not to permit the bill have its direction.

Educator Ogunyemi said their is a current law that recommended disciplines over unfortunate behavior for the most part among both staff and understudies, obviously articulating proper change instrument.

"Any law or bill which tries to supplant these laws abuses the college self-governance," he said.

"In this specific case, the bill disregards the Federal Government of Nigeria and ASUU understanding of 2009 and all things considered ought to be rejected," Ogunyemi said.

He likewise noticed that s*xual provocation was a societal issue and not unconventional to tertiary organizations thus tertiary foundations ought not be singled out for such law.
