FUTA Suspends 4 Students Accused Of Internet Fraud By EFCC
The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has uncertainly suspended four understudies of the foundation captured by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over charged N16 million web extortion.
The EFCC captured five suspects – four from FUTA and one from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, (AAUA), on Monday.
The suspects were captured at an Off-Campus home situated at Anuoluwapo Close, Stateline Hotel Road, off FUTA South Gate, Akure, Ondo.
An announcement issued by the Head, Information and Protocol Unit of FUTA, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, said the Vice Chancellor of the college affirmed the assent.
The announcement said:
"The four understudies, who have been given uncertain suspension and are to avoid the school until further notice are – Ogundile A.O (Civil and Environmental Engineering), Fasakin P.T (Civil and Environmental Engineering), Akinsanmi F.O (Mathematical Sciences), and Ifeobu U.O (Urban and Regional Planning).
"In a letter passing on the suspension, the college said the Vice Chancellor affirmed the authorization in view of the surviving guidelines which stipulate inconclusive suspension for understudies captured and being researched for criminal exercises.
"This is as per the procurements of the University Handbook of Information 2012-2015 page 54, section 5(i) which expresses that, at whatever point an understudy is being researched for a criminal offense by the police or is accused of a criminal offense; regardless of whether associated with the college; the understudy might be suspended from his studentship until he/she is cleared of the claim/charge.
